As someone who grew up in the beautiful beach city of Santa Barbara, I can attest to the fact that my happy place is near the water. There’s just something so calming and rejuvenating about being near the ocean or a pool, feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin (with sunscreen on of course), and listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. I have so many memories of spending summers at the beach with my family and friends, building sandcastles, swimming in the ocean, and soaking up the sun. Even now, as an adult, I still find that being near water is one of the best ways to relax and recharge. Whether it’s a quick dip in the pool after work or a weekend getaway to a nearby beach, being near water always brings a smile to my face. Today I’m sharing my favorite beach and pool day essentials for the summer!
Now that summer is practically upon us (at least here in Miami it is!), that means it’s time to pack up our beach bags and head to the water. But before you do, make sure you have all the essentials you need to make your day in the sun as fun and comfortable as possible. Here are some of my top must-have summer essentials:
- Swimsuit: This is the most important item on the list! Make sure you have a swimsuit that makes you feel confident and comfortable (this is the most flattering one-piece swimsuit). Whether you prefer a bikini (this one is my favorite $20 two-piece) or a one- piece, there are plenty of styles and colors to choose from. Don’t forget to bring a cover- up (you need this $30 crochet dress) or a sarong for when you need a break from the sun.
- Sunscreen: Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is crucial, so make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen. Choose a sunscreen with zinc oxide (this is my favorite face sunscreen and body sunscreen) with an SPF of at least 30 and remember to reapply every two hours.
- Sunglasses: Not only do sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun, but they also add a touch of style to your beach look. I mostly wear amazon sunnies that are SO cute, so affordable (and designer dupes)! My favorite amazon sunglasses are linked this blog post!
- Hat: A wide-brimmed hat not only looks chic but also helps to keep the sun off your face and neck. You know I am OBSESSED with my oversized wide-brim straw hat (and it’s so chic)! Plus, it’s a great way to protect your hair from the sun and saltwater.
- Water bottle: Staying hydrated is key, especially when you’re out in the sun all day. Bring a reusable water bottle (like this Stanley water bottle) and refill it throughout the day.
- Beach towel: A soft and absorbent beach towel is essential for lounging on the sand or by the pool. Choose a large towel that you can easily spread out on. I love this beach or pool towel that’s bright and colorful yet folds up very thin to throw in your straw bag!
- Waterproof phone case: If you want to take photos or listen to music while you’re at the beach or pool, a waterproof phone case is a must-have. You can even use it to take underwater photos!
