Another month has come and gone and honestly I’m bummed to leave Charleston! I didn’t think I’d fall in love with this city as much as I did… it’s truly one-of-a-kind! If you’re looking for southern charm, history, beautiful architecture and views, and all around amazing people and food, then this is the place for you! We could have easily spent another month here because there is so much to do in this small little town and it just felt right. Today I’m sharing where we stayed, what to eat/drink when you visit, and all the fun activities to do!
WHERE TO STAY:
We randomly stumbled up on this cute, centrally located airbnb in downtown Charleston and couldn’t have been more pleased with it! We walked EVERYWHERE this month down to the battery, king st, restaurants, shops, etc, so it’s super convenient in regards to location (especially if you are traveling without a car)! The interiors are so charming and vintage with a modern twist which makes it a unique and beautiful place to call home base. There is a cute little private courtyard with a fountain and we thoroughly enjoyed the large windows for ample sunlight! I know there are a ton of hotels in downtown Charleston that are great options, but since we were living here for a month, we opted for the convenience of our own home, and definitely felt right at home 🙂
WHAT TO DO:
To be honest, there is SO MUCH to do in Charleston for such a small town! We almost ran out of time before checking off everything on our bucket list for the month! Definitely explore downtown near king street, maybe even take a walking historical tour or a haunted dark secrets tour in the evening! You also need to make your way out to the beaches if you visit- Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, and Sullivans (our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE)! Here are some of my favorite activities we did this month:
- Walk down to the battery along the water, it’s very picturesque and beautiful
- Charleston walking tours- cobblestone streets, history, and much more to learn about the charming town
- The Pineapple Fountain and Waterfront Park- right by the battery, and such a fun place to sit on a bench and people watch and enjoy the views
- Folly Beach- a little wild and very crowded but cool to experience
- Isle of Palms- beautiful beach near Sullivans
- Sullivans Island- our personal FAVORITE. amazing restaurants, beautiful and extremely scenic beaches (long walks out on the boardwalk/marsh to the sand), there is a sandbar you can swim out to (and the water temperature when we were visiting was about 81 degrees)!
- Boat tours- there are so many, just google!
- Charleston City Market- peruse around and check out all the local handmade goods
- Saturday Farmers Market- so cute and fun to meander
- 2nd Sunday- every second Sunday of the month they block off the entirety of King Street and there are tons of people walking, shopping, eating, drinking, and having a good time
- Rainbow Row- an absolute must when visiting to check out and take pictures of a dozen historic houses painted in bright colors
- Angels Oak- the largest live oak east of the Mississippi
- Magnolia Plantation and Gardens or Boone Hall Plantation
- Walk the Cooper Bridge that goes across the waterway
WHERE TO EAT + DRINK:
BRUNCH:
- Miller’s All Day- my personal favorite! you MUST order the Nutella banana bread and the homemade cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting (wow wow wow)!
- Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit
- Toast
DRINKS:
- Citrus Club-the absolute best views in Charleston (it’s on the rooftop of the Dewberry Hotel)
DINNER:
- Hanks Seafood- incredibly tasty seafood and a must try
- Church & Union- the most UNIQUE restaurant experience dining inside of a church with amazing food for everyone
- High Cotton- an upscale restaurant with amazing service (and where part of the Notebook was filmed)
- Halls Chophouse
- Taco Boy- fun outdoor atmosphere and great Mexican food
- Leon’s Oyster House
- SNOB (Slightly North of Broad)
- The Obstinate Daughter (on Sullivans)
- Lewis BBQ
- 167 Raw
- Husk
- Post House Inn
- Fleet Landing- right on the water near the battery (go for a drink at least and sit outside)
DESSERT:
- Carmellas Dessert Bar- incredible desserts and a bar with dessert drinks
- Jeni’s Ice Cream- order the gooey butter cake you’ll love it!
