You all know by now how important my skin health is to me. And this is often the thing older women say they wish they could tell their younger selves: take care of your skin from a young age! That advice has always stuck with me, so I try to make my skincare routine a priority in my day.
- Sunscreen! I’ve said it a million times before, and I will keep saying it. You should put sunscreen on every single day (and reapply throughout the day!). It is important not only for anti-aging, but also for protecting yourself from any risk of skin cancer. As a previous melanoma patient, I now take skin protection super seriously, and this is the best face sunscreen out there (since it has Zinc Oxide). An amazing clean skincare sunscreen is Dime Beauty’s Wunderscreen (use code: toreyb20). Make sure you read my other blog post where I go over all my other favorite dermatologist approved sunscreens!
- Vitamin C Serum – this is a staple for me in my skincare routine because it seriously offers so many benefits to your skin. It reduces wrinkles, evens out your skin tone, protects and increases collagen production, helps protect against sun damage, brightens your complexion, and acts as a barrier against pollution and other free radicals. See? This Skinceuticals Vitamin C (not only is the best I’ve found) but a powerhouse serum that literally does so much for your skin.
- Retinol – this powerful serum gets more and more important the older we get. Since skin cell turnover slows dramatically as we get older, this serum helps promote cellular turnover leaving your skin soft and smooth. If you ever notice your skin is feeling rough or your makeup isn’t going on as smooth, it is likely because your cells aren’t turning over as fast as they once did. Try this retinol and you will see (and feel!) a noticeable difference in no time! It also helps treat acne, soften wrinkles, fade hyperpigmentation or sun damage, and give your skin a youthful glow. Depending on the strength of your retinol, it’s important to start slow and increase your usage as your skin adjusts to it. So be sure to follow the instructions from your dermatologist, esthetician, or product recommendations from the brand.
