Hey hey hey my friends! We just moved from D.C. to NYC after living in our country’s capital for a month and had the best time! I’m SO excited to share today’s travel guide with you because I know a lot of you have trips to visit Washington D.C. in the near future so hopefully this’ll help you plan your visit! We actually visited for one quick, whirlwind weekend in June (be sure to check out this blog post: Washington D.C. Summer Travel Guide), so today I’ll be adding on to that list of where to stay, what to do, and where to eat/drink!
As you can tell from the progression of photos, we arrived in D.C. when it was still SO WARM (and amazingly beautiful with the most striking Fall leaves), and then the month slowly progressed into chillier weather and Christmas decor (we left D.C. on Dec 3), but we loved to see and experience the change! With that being said, let’s get right to the travel guide!
WHERE TO STAY:
We rented a very thoughtfully appointed, decorated, and centrally located 2 bd/2bath from Sojourn DC (our exact unit was 1229 15th St NW, street level)! We LOVED our experience staying here 🙂 It definitely felt like a home away from home with every thoughtful touch and the kindest and best customer experience! I highly recommend renting from Sojourn DC, as they have HUNDREDS of units throughout the are and are one of the best companies we’ve rented from yet! They even sent us a guide with “Must See D.C. Sites” upon booking and always had the quickest response rate! Our apartment was in a great location, right near Dupont Circle and Logan Circle, a quick walk away from the National Mall and the White House, and had a Whole Foods/Trader Joes/Starbucks nearby which was ideal! I can’t wait to return and experience D.C. so seamlessly and know that I’ll be at ease if I stay at another Sojourn DC apartment!
WHAT TO DO:
Don’t forget to read my Washington D.C. Summer Travel Guide for a ton of activities we did last time we visited! Since we stayed for a month this time around, these were some of our favorite things to see/do:
- Pentagon tour
- White House
- Eastern market (in the Capitol Hill area)
- Smithsonian Museums- free
- Wharf Area- we saw CHVRCHES at the Anthem Music Hall and had the best time!
- Arlington Cemetery
- Old Town Alexandria, VA (take the train, so cute)!
- Navy Yard
WHERE TO EAT/DRINK:
We honestly didn’t go out to eat too frequently here in D.C., but some of the restaurants we loved (again piggy backing on my prior Washington D.C. Travel Guide) are:
Le Diplomate, Pembroke, La Vie, Bluestone Lane, Philz Coffee, Tatte Bakery
OTHER HELPFUL TIPS:
I definitely recommend flying into DCA (it’s the easiest and closest airport) and you have the best views flying in! Also consider utilizing the public transit in the city- the MTA train and bus. That’s what we did since we found Ubers a bit pricey at times! Also WALK, seriously! You can get almost anywhere just walking and will se a lot more of the city that way 🙂 There are also a ton of scooter/bike apps you can download and try out!
