Many of you girls have upcoming summer vacations, and I want you to know that all the hard work you’ve put in at the gym and in the kitchen doesn’t have to get lost on your trip you have planned! As you know, I’ve been traveling for the last 10 months and have been maintaining a healthy lifestyle while away, so feel inclined to share what I’ve been doing that you can easily incorporate too if you’re going on an upcoming vacay! I want you to know that traveling doesn’t mean abandoning your healthy routines and habits, but it should also be enjoyed! Here are my 10 easy tips that you can try incorporating to help you stay fit while traveling and avoid coming home with unwanted extra baggage 😉
I like to stand by the saying: “memories over macros”, meaning just enjoy your trip, soak in very moment, try new foods and drinks, splurge on things you normally wouldn’t eat or drink, because life is meant to be lived! But it comes to a point on vacation, where you don’t want to erase all of your hard work in the gym and kitchen that you’ve been working at day in and day out. While I don’t want you to derail your progress, I do want you to enjoy and have fun while being *mindful* of staying active and making better choices if you can!
While we’ve been traveling the last 10 months, we’ve made a point to stay active and join a gym in each city we live in! Hotel gyms are getting better and better these days so definitely consider packing workout clothes for an upcoming vacation you have! I also LOVE incorporating new types of workouts into my trips- like this hike we took to Lanikai Pillbox in Oahu! It is one of my favorite hikes on the island and the view is 100% worth it at the top! Staying active on vacation also allows you to see things you typically wouldn’t see if you just hung around the pool or beach all day, so get out and explore!
Here are some of my best tips to staying active and fit while on vacation:
Drink LOTS of water! Stay hydrated with 100+ ounces everyday. If you drink an alcoholic beverage, follow it up with a giant glass of water.
Get active daily. Plan a new type of cardio (swimming, kayaking, hiking, biking) into your routine or head to the hotel gym for 30 minutes for some strength training. Anything is better than nothing! Try packing a resistance band in your suitcase too for a quick burn in the hotel room.
Prepare snacks + plan ahead if you can! I like to travel with One Protein Bars + Protein Powder to keep me on track with hitting my protein goal daily. This also serves as a great snack midday so you won’t have to eat out 3-4 meals/day.
See the sights on foot! Or even opt for stairs over elevators and escalators while traveling and in airports. I like to get in 10k steps per day so if that means waking up early for a morning walk or ending the day with a sunset walk, I’m on it!
Get lots of rest! I feel like getting 8 hours of sleep is so underrated but SO important! Getting more sleep can boost your mood and energy levels more than you’ll ever know. Try it!
By shifting your mindset just a little before your vacation, you can easily maintain your health if you are mindful. It is important to relax, but it’s also important to keep moving and experiencing new things!
