Back again with another fashion post, on a subject I’ve been meaning to touch on for awhile now! A trend I have noticed over the last few years when I style outfits from my closet, is I always reach for affordable clothes with higher end designer pieces mixed in. As much as we, myself included, might love designer labels, a 100% designer wardrobe doesn’t make sense for most of our budgets and lifestyles. In fact, it’s not realistic. As most of you know, I was a 2nd grade teacher for five years, so to say I budgeted for the clothes and shoes I purchased is definitely an understatement. Over the years, I’ve learned to be smarter with my purchases, and if I met a certain goal or milestone in my blogging business, I was able to purchase something designer I’d been eyeing.
Fast forward to today and being a fashion blogger, I’m constantly buying new clothes and trying new trends, so I tend to reach for more affordable clothing, like this $10 bodysuit and $15 denim shorts (which are actually so well made, they look designer). I love mixing in my favorite designer handbags like this LV I’ve owned for 2 years now, or shoes, like these Golden Goose, which really elevates my simple look to another level. I like to look at it like this: mixing high-end with budget friendly pieces allows me to splurge on certain items I absolutely love because I’m saving money on other pieces in my closet.
I find that the designer pieces that I’ve saved up for and then splurged on over the years are mostly accessories like bags or shoes. They give me more bang for my buck because, unlike with clothes, I can carry the same designer bag week after week, year after year. I don’t seem to tire of accessories like I tire of clothes. Plus, a quality designer bag should stand the test of time! I actually have a blog post on my designer handbag review if you’re interested in seeing my favorites I own!
The outfit I wore this weekend exploring NYC is a prime example showing that you can invest in high-end items, get the overall look you want, and still stay within a certain budget if you learn how to successfully mix! Remember, that these pieces will last you many seasons and years to come so cost per wear really comes into play!
