I used to have major flying anxiety, and then I traveled back and forth from Santa Barbara to visit my boyfriend in Arizona about once a month so got pretty used to it. The more you do something the easier it becomes right? That was until in 2018 my mom and I had a pretty terrifying flying experience going from FL >> CA where the plane just dropped thousands of feet mid-air with no explanation. My boyfriend’s dad is actually a retired pilot but he always eases me by letting me know flying is actually SO safe, not to worry. So over the years I’ve cumulated a few things that work for me to ease my flying anxiety that I wanted to share..

Someone recently told me that technically you’re more likely to get in a car accident on the way to the airport (unfortunately) than in an actual flying accident so that really stuck with me. I do try and remember how safe it is to fly, but still have my moments where I get nervous, sweaty, my heart races, etc. If you know, you know 😉 This is what helps me, and hopefully it can help you on a future flight.
FLYING ANXIETY TIPS:
Equilibria- try using some CBD drops before your flight, and mid flight. You can use code: toreystreasures for a discount!
Adult coloring book– sounds crazy, but it really helps get your mind off of flying and you get to be creative
Watch a movie– anything to distract yourself!
Read a book– again, this will get your mind off of things
Xanax– this is a little aggressive, but it helps on long flights if needed
A glass of wine– never hurt 😉
A few reader tips you girls wrote in are:
During turbulence write in cursive with the opposite hand that you’d normally use
Start listing animals in ABC order
Research or watch videos about flying to understand how safe it actually is
Breathe into a bag
Close your eyes, breathe, imagine you’re driving on a bumpy road in a bus
I hope this helps you or anyone you know who may have some flying anxiety like I do! Here’s to safe and happy flights in 2021 🙂
