Coming at you with a fun fitness post today and sharing 10 things I swear by to be your healthiest self! As you all know, living a healthy lifestyle is one of my top priorities and I do things daily that help me reach my health and fitness goals. I wanted to share these 10 tips with you in hopes that you can implement them into your own lifestyle!
10 THINGS I SWEAR BY TO LIVE YOUR HEALTHIEST LIFE:
- Get 8 hours of sleep and wake up at the same time daily. Sounds simple, but sometimes when you’re busy, or mindlessly stay up late watching a movie, or even on the weekends you get the urge to sleep in, this can deeply affect your productivity and mood the next day. I try and get 8-9 hours of sleep every single night and wake up at the same time every day (yes, even on weekends). There are some studies that show that if you wake up at the same time every time day, you will actually improve the quality of your sleep. Try it!
- Drink 100 ounces of water daily. I have this 40 oz. hydro flask + straw lid that I swear by that helps me get in my daily water intake. The rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water, but I like to stay extra hydrated so I fill up my hydro flask 2-3 times a day!
- Get in a daily workout 7 days/week. To some this might sound crazy, but it’s what works for me! I’m not saying you need to do an intense spin class or a sweat inducing workout daily, but something to get your heart rate up and get your body moving! I love to strength train 5 times/week and then the other 2 I’ll do a spin class, long walk, or yoga.
- Take my daily vitamins. When I break my fast in the morning, I’ll follow it up with my daily vitamins, daily greens (Athletic Greens), and my liquid collagen (which I swear by for healthy nails, skin, hair, and joint health). I go into much more detail on my Instagram highlight called “VITAMINS”.
- Counting my macros every single day. This strategy for eating has changed my outlook on the quality of food I’m putting into my body everyday! I’m making sure that my body is fueled with the appropriate carbs, fats, and proteins each day to help me reach my goals. Counting macros has allowed me so much food freedom to eat what I enjoy yet I’m in full control of my eating. It’s the best feeling when you can eat what you love but still reach your goals. You may want to read my blog post on why I count macros for more info!
- I workout fasted every morning. I fast for 16+ hours every day. So after my last meal of the day, I don’t eat the next ay until about 10-11am. Of course you can drink coffee, but I think it’s important to workout in a fasted state for so many reasons. The main benefit being that it increases your aerobic capacity and increases the fat utilization (aka the use of fat as a fuel source).
- I wear SPF every day. This is SO SO SO IMPORTANT to me. I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing sunscreen, especially on your face. With a family history (including myself) of melanoma, this is my top priority and I do what I can to stay out of the sun everyday. My favorite face sunscreen is dermatologist recommended and is EltaMD which I put under my makeup everyday.
- Get in 10k steps daily. There’s nothing better than getting some much needed daily fresh air, staying active with my steps, and getting your heart rate up. I love throwing on a podcast and just going for a long walk. There’s something so refreshing about the temps starting to warm up, unplugging from reality for a bit, and just moving my body. I wrote a blog post on 5 things I need for my daily walks, definitely check it out.
- Have a fridge stocked with whole food options. This is so key for eating in when there are days that you don’t know what to cook. Having a refrigerator stocked with fresh fruits and veggies, lean protein options, and healthy snacks will definitely keep you on the right track since they’re easy to reach for.
- Find some morning quiet time. I recently have gotten into using the Headspace app for a quick 5-10 minute guided meditation in the morning. I also love to get in a chapter of reading (on my kindle of course) if I can then proceed to plan out my day. Getting focused, organized, and my head in the right space starts my day off right!
