Hey hey friends! Today I’m sharing a fun and different blog post that I think may be an eye opener for a lot of you working on becoming an influencer and blogger, or just anyone interested in the behind the scenes of what I do daily! Although blogging has been around for awhile now, there are still some “unknown” factors out there and the behind the scenes of being a blogger may seem a little mysterious to some. I totally get it…it’s a wild profession! Now that I’ve been blogging for about 6 years and full time for almost 2 years, I have a pretty good grasp on blogging and thought I would pull the curtain today on a few things you may not know about being a blogger or influencer…welcome to my world!
If you didn’t already know I have a dedicated page on my blog to “blogging tips”. If you’re an aspiring blogger I highly recommend you check out this page on my blog! I have all sorts of tips like: how to take good Instagram photos, apps I use daily for blogging, blogging do’s and don’ts, and so much more!
Now let’s get to today’s blog post chatting all about what you may not know about being a blogger:
- I do it all! When I started blogging I had to google literally everything from “how to start a blog” to “what is a domain name” and “how do I set up an email list”…you get the picture! As the years went on, I learned so much about blogging and truly do it ALL! For example, I do my taxes/invoicing/payroll, I’m the shopper, I’m the content creator, the photographer, the editor, the writer, the admin girl, the graphic designer, the website developer, the brand manager, marketing guru, and SO MUCH MORE. The list truly goes on and on! Over the years I have learned to put some dollars into those that are experts in their field: i.e. pinterest manager, reels editor, and an accountant, but other than that I am self sufficient and do everything for my little corner of the internet! It’s satisfying to know I’ve truly built a successful business out of nothing!
- There is no time off! This job is a 24/7/365 and days off don’t really exist. There is always something I can be doing to staying ahead. In fact, I feel like I’m never actually ahead and am always trying to catch up! I work more now than I’ve ever worked in any job, especially now that we’re “working from anywhere”. It might seem like we are jetting off month to month in different locations, but the truth of it is, we work 50+ hours/week wherever we are. The work never stops, especially when traveling! When I’m in new locations that is actually the most crucial time to work the hardest because there are new locations to scout for shooting, more photo opportunities, potential hotels to work with etc. It’s a lot of work, but also a lot of fun!
- #Ad doesn’t mean that I don’t love something! I always find it shocking when I get followers that ask me “do you actually love that product you promoted?” and the truth is YES, of course!! Your trust means everythinggg to me so I would never hurt that reputation to promote something I didn’t truthfully love! Think of it like this: I am constantly wearing and sharing my favorites from Lululemon, Free People, Electric Picks, etc, and these brands start to notice. Sometimes (and hopefully) the brand will ask to partner together to promote them. Sometimes I get paid to promote things I love and sometimes I don’t. But it is required by law for a blogger to put #ad when they are getting paid to promote a product by a brand. I only share what I really love on my Instagram and blog, so whether or not the brand pays me to speak about it, I will still share because I want to share my opinion and great finds with you! In fact, my job is also called “influencer” which technically means: the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself. With that being said, I never share things with you guys that I do not genuinely love and support with ounce of my being! Having your trust at the end of the day is my priority and I’m so grateful that you’ve put your trust in me to share what I love day in and day out! It means everything to me!!
- The job is constantly changing! Social media is constantly evolving and changing every single day to offer users a better experience! For example, “reels” were recently introduced on Instagram and is favored by the app when posting. So essentially the more video reels you post on Instagram, the more eyes you’ll get in front of on the app! There are always new features being introduced and you have to stay relevant and competitive in the market. To stay afloat, you need to stay up to date with the latest on all platforms: instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc!
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job, and am SO grateful for every opportunity that comes my way! My main goal of this blog post was to be an insight into some information that you may not know about the career I’m in, especially if you are interested in becoming a blogger. I never in a million years thought I’d be able to support myself blogging and working for myself, but after 6 years of putting in SO much hard work, sweat, and tears, I’m feeling incredibly grateful to do what I do day in and day out! Thank you for being here 🙂
