2020 to most everyone means a fresh start, new chance, and a new opportunity to start off the year with a clean slate, right? It seems that most people set the same goals year after year because making new habits stick is difficult when you lose enthusiasm and end up going back to your old ways. Now is the most important time of the year, where it’s up to YOU to move forward and push past that point of giving up on your resolutions and goals! I love setting new goals and conquering them throughout the year and this year is no exception! Today I’m sharing some tips I’ve learned to maintain your momentum and push through to achieve your goals you set for yourself…
Before we dive in to today’s blog post, I want you to take a minute to acknowledge that you’ve taken time and consideration to set goals for yourself this year! Writing your goals down is a huge step in actually achieving them! Now let’s chat about a couple important ways to make your New Year’s resolutions or goals for 2020 stick:
- Make a habit of your resolution. Let’s say your goal is to go to the gym Mon-Fri then you need to find a way to work that into your daily schedule and create a routine of it. Set out your gym clothes, sign up for a class, and hold yourself accountable. The more you make this a routine, the more likely it’ll turn into a habit where you won’t have to think twice about!
- Move on. Let’s say your goal is to eat healthier- more veggies and less junk. That’s great, but sometimes you need to splurge and indulge in a homemade brownie + ice cream. Enjoy every bite of it and don’t beat yourself up over it! Focus on the progress you’ve made, and understand that one day won’t ruin everything. Positive self talk is so important and realizing that one bad day isn’t a bad life is key. Just set an intention to start the next day with a fresh mindset and fresh slate!
- Focus on one goal at a time. We live in a world today where everything is overwhelming and overstimulating and we are constantly on-the-go. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to accomplish 5 goals at once. Take it goal by goal and even day by day. Remember, good things take time!
