Last weekend I took my mom to Portland, Oregon for a quick girls weekend getaway for her birthday! We had a great time exploring the city for about 48 hours and wish we could’ve stayed longer to explore outside the city…but I wanted to make sure I shared what we DID DO with you guys incase you’re planning a trip! I highly recommend visiting Portland for a little getaway…

My favorite part of our trip was walking all over town (20,000+ steps a day) and spending quality time with my mom! I loved being able to dress for forty degree weather to stay cozy 🙂 I hope you love these cozy Fall/Winter outfits! Below is what was recommended to us by you guys on Instagram AND I included descriptions of the places that WE went to and loved!
BRUNCH:
- Blue Star Donuts: Everyone said these donuts were better than Voodoo and WOW! SO GOOD 🙂 My mom and I got a lemon poppyseed and a vanilla horchata. The line was long but moved quickly and the space was clean + fresh!
- Voodoo Donuts: well known for their crazy donut creations (like fruit loops + Oreos, etc)
- Stumptown Coffee: this coffee was founded in Portland!
- Canteen: smoothies, açaí bowls, etc, recommended by a reader but we didn’t try!
LUNCH:
- Food Truck Village: We discovered food trucks everywhere in Portland, but this was one right near O’Bryant Square was a great spot to choose and try! There were probably about 40 different food trucks going around the block…my mom loves asian food but we opted for a warm and comforting pesto grilled cheese from the “Grilled Cheese Truck”. YUM!!
- POK POK: We went here for lunch on our last day and it was SO GOOD (would also be great for dinner). It’s authentic and creative Thai food (yum) that was also highly recommended! It has almost 3,000 5 star reviews on Yelp! Wow!
DRINKS:
- Departure: this was recommended to me by a reader and I can see why! It’s located on the 30th floor of a hotel with insane views. It was too cold for us, but would be great during the warmer months to sit outside and watch the city!
DINNER:
- Portland City Grill: This was HIGHLY recommended to us by EVERYBODY! It is located on top of a high-rise bank building with INSANE views of the entire city! The menu was great, drinks were awesome, and we had a nice fancy dinner for my mom’s birthday!!
DESSERT:
- Salt and Straw: A great spot for homemade, Portland based ice cream! We had the most unique and tasty flavors. A must!
- Cookie Dough Cafe: A reader recommended this but we didn’t try it.
THINGS TO DO:
- Powell’s Books: the largest book store in the country! It was SO cool- we spent awhile wandering through the aisles of books, new and used.
- 23rd Ave: This is fun to walk up and down. There is great boutique shopping, and it’s such a quaint street to go in and out of shops. There’s also quite a few coffee shops, restaurants, and dessert places (including Salt and Straw AND Blue Star Donuts). You can also get a taste of the Portland neighborhoods here!!
- Burn Cycle: My mom and I LOVE to workout so we had to get in a solid, sweaty spin class while in town! We loved it.
- If we had more time we would have checked out: Ice skating at Lloyd Center, Pittock Mansion tour, Japanese Rose Gardens, Hike Multnomah Falls, and visit Cannon Beach.
WHERE TO STAY:
- Kimpton Monaco: This was centrally located to everything we wanted to do and had great perks like coffee every morning, a 5pm happy hour everyday + free bikes!
HOW TO GET AROUND:
- Walk: My mom and I walked about 20,000 steps each day and thought the city was SUPER walkable…everything we went to was within a mile radius which was super convenient!
- Uber: As always, this is a great option…we took an uber from the airport into the city!
- Bird: We tried riding Bird scooters (it was my moms first time) and we had a blast. They’re everywhere, all over the city!
