It seems like I’ve been getting a higher than average amount of messages regarding my camera equipment I use for blogging and how I edit photos on Instagram so I figured I’d share all the information in one place for you girls to reference. I’ll start by saying that this is what I’ve found works for ME and what I personally like to use! It might be different for other bloggers, but over the past couple years of blogging I’ve learned a lot so I’m happy to share my knowledge with all of you!
CAMERA EQUIPMENT:
- I started my blog with iPhone photos only, and about 1 year in purchased this Canon t5i (which has camera + video camera capabilities) with a 50 mm lens. I still use this camera today and love it! The 50 mm lens is what gives you the blurry backgrounds on photos.
- I recently purchased this tripod with this wireless remote clicker and have to say they are both super friendly, affordable, and high quality products for an insanely great price! Highly recommend.
HOW I EDIT MY PHOTOS: Of course my style of editing photos has evolved over the years as I’ve learned and taught myself about different editing tips, but currently this is what I do for almost every photo you see on Instagram or here on my blog. My style of editing (as you all know) is: light, white, with pops of bright colors, so this is what works!
1. I transfer my photo into the Lightroom app either on my laptop or the app on my phone- they both work the same!
2. I use the “bright” preset that comes in the app.
3. At this point, every photo gets some fine tuning, because every photo has different lighting. However, generally I’ll go over to the “color” tool and usually bring up the orange (to the right for some added tan skin), then I’ll bring down the yellows (to bring out the bright whites), then sometimes I’ll alter a specific color that I’m wearing to saturate it a bit so it pops and stands out.
4. Then I’ll go over to the “light” tool and bring up the exposure and white. This brightens the photo and makes it pop!
5. Lastly, I’ll open the “facetune” app to help me what I call, spot treat, the photo. I’ll use the smooth tool, sometimes the patch tool to get rid of unwanted things in the photo like leaves or pipes etc, and then I’ll save the photo to my camera roll to upload.
YES, I realize this is A LOT of work for every single photo, considering I upload multiple photos a day, however, I maintain this editing consistency within my photos so that my Instagram feed is cohesive and so that my readers know what to expect when they see a photo of mine 🙂
I hope this helped those of you that were interested! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below, I’ll always respond here the quickest. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for a super exciting blog post coming to Torey’s Treasures on MONDAY! 😉
