Valentine’s Day… You either hate it or love it. To me, it’s just another day, and it is what you make of it! It’s another day to express your love for the people and things in life that you appreciate and don’t forget to show appreciation for yourself. Whether you’re single, or taken, today I’m sharing my favorite ways to spend Valentine’s Day that will surely make you happy regardless of your relationship status 🙂
Do you have Valentine’s Day plans yet? This year I’ll be spending my Valentine’s Day 800 miles away from my special valentine 🙁 It’s pretty sad and a bummer, especially since my boyfriend and I have a fun Valentine’s Day tradition of going out to a nice Mexican restaurant for dinner, but it’s alright, I’ll survive… I’ll see him soon for our exciting upcoming ski trip! So my plans on February 14th this year will most likely include: teaching all day at school (and trying to make it out alive from the sugar craze), spending my evening at the gym, making myself a yummy dinner, and going to bed by 9:00pm and that’s perfectly fine by me!
Whether you’re single, and spending a night with your Galentine’s, or taken and going out to a fancy dinner with your Valentine, my advice to ensure you spend the day being happy is this:
- Write down 3 things your grateful first thing when you wake up. I like the idea of writing it on a post it nd keeping it on the dash of your car, or on the back of your phone case. You’ll be constantly reminded of it throughout the day, and it will help instill that life is good and you have a lot to be thankful for 🙂
- Make a couple phone calls or send a handwritten cards to loved ones in your life including your mom, dad, siblings, grandma/grandpa, etc. This will mean so much to them and will express your love and gratitude for having them in your life!
- Treat yourself! Whether it’s a $6 latte in the morning, lighting your favorite candle while eating a pizza and glass of wine for dinner, or treating yourself to a manicure/pedicure after work, be sure to show some self love. Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things in life, no matter what!
At the end of the day, remember Valentine’s Day is just another day. It’s all about your perspective to make it a happy one, so choose happiness, choose gratitude and choose to love yourself and those around you (including strangers).
XOXO, from me to you!
