The holidays are always a crazy busy time of year and for most, maintaining your health usually falls at the bottom of your priority list. From Halloween in October to New Year’s in January and Thanksgiving and Christmas in between there, I try extra hard to stay motivated to maintain my health and fitness. Today I’m sharing a few tips that have worked for me to keep it right and tight during the holidays. Of course, new workout gear, like my favorite brand Lole helps motivate me too 😉
- Food: For me, this is always at the top of my priority list and I’m always thinking about my next meal. It’s important to find your balance when you eat and to not deprive yourself of what you love. Just remember to eat everything in moderation and think about portion control! For example, my weakness is sugar and sweats. I try to avoid buying them this time of year, but if I do, I’ll have something on the weekends as a treat. It’s also good to ensure you always have your usual healthy groceries around the house, and you limit eating out. If you do happen to eat out at a party, try to eat a snack before you go, and don’t linger around the food table. My new favorite snack that’s packed with protein and fiber are these GG crackers. I love to top them with peanut butter and a little honey!
- Workout: Stick to your regular workout routine and regular physical activity. I workout 5-7 times a week and always make sure I get to a group workout class. Those are the best for motivation and I feel 100% better afterwards! Just remember, going for a 20 minute walk around the block is better than no exercise!
- Accountability: Sometimes you need to hold yourself accountable or have someone or something else hold you accountable. My mom loves her fitness tracker app which helps her stay on track, and I love my Fitbit Blaze which tracks everything for me including fitness, food, water intake, and sleep. It’s always a good idea to record your workouts and meals for the week in a planner or journal. I find that if I do that, I make better choices overall for my health!
My biggest advice to stay on track during the holiday season is to not be so hard on yourself. Try to be as consistent as you can while still enjoying this special time of year with family and friends : )
Happy weekend babes! XOXO
