My boyfriend and I spent an extended New Year’s Eve weekend skiing and snowboarding in Lake Tahoe with some friends! Although we hit the slopes (Squaw one day and Northstar another day) just before the best snowstorm of the year came in, it was still an absolutely incredible trip! Mostly due in part to my company and the location, but also due to the fact that we put social media away for 3 days!
Between Instagram, Snapchat, blog posts, and emails, being a blogger means I’m essentially attached at the hip with internet and my phone, every day. Although it gave me a bit of anxiety to unplug at the beginning of my vacation, with a little bit of effort, limited service, and distraction through our activities, I quickly realized that it’s all about being present. Communicating with others face to face at dinner, visualizing my run down the ski slope, and playing games while laughing with each other, is so necessary for my well being.
When I was able to take a 72+ hour technology break on our Lake Tahoe getaway, I realized my passion, energy, creativity, and perspective on life all became so much more clear! I encourage you to try and not get sucked into your phone and initiate a day, evening, or even a full vacation to unplug from your phone or computer. I promise you will feel so refreshed, full of life, and your loved ones will be so thankful for your time and energy! My Lake Tahoe trip with my boyfriend will now be forever engraved in my memory because of our presence with each other 🙂
