Last Tuesday night I had the honor of attending the #rSschoolnight event in Los Angeles hosted by Reward Style at Madera Kitchen. It was my first blogging event I have been invited to, and I have to admit, I was a little nervous meeting other bloggers, however, it turned out to be the perfect combination of fun and informative. I loved getting to meet other blogging babes in Southern California!
The night focused on all things branding, site design, SEO, and and how to make the most of LIKEtoKNOW.it. I took away a TON of information (and also a cute goodie bag), but wanted to do a quick recap of the top 10 things I learned at the #rSschoolnight for all my blogger babes:
- You need a mission statement. End of story!
- Media Kits are key for collaborations and partnerships. Create one and ensure your rates show your worth yet are also reasonable. The aesthetic should match your site.
- Platforms are friendly for all users on all technology fronts. Your site should be responsive, have a user-friendy layout, and sidebars/headers/footers/widgets should be implemented for quick finds/shopping access.
- SEO is key- (WordPress.org plugins include Yoast, Jetpack, Jquery Pin It, Broken Link Checker)
- Consistency is key to growing your following. (Ex: posting 2x per day or sending out a newsletter at 10am via Mailchimp is best)
- When posting, try to educate your audience and get personal as best you can!
- Someuseful sites/apps to explore and utilize in regards to planning, editorial calendars, organization, goal setting, etc: Iconosquare, Piqora, Planoly, Evernote, Wunderlist, Trello, Toggl, Stayfocused, VSCO, Snapseed, Buffer, Sprout Social)
- Utilize Instagram and Snapchat as well as your blog (they are the most popular social media platforms right now)
- Integrate other areas into your usual posts: travel, fitness, beauty, interior, etc.
- Most importantly remember WHY you started blogging in the first place and keep that mentality as you grow 🙂
I know my top 10 take-aways from the #rSschoolnight are pretty broad, however, I took SO many pages of handwritten notes, so please feel free to email me if you’d like more insight into any topic! You can reach me best at Torey@ToreysTreasures.com 🙂
