I’m sure you’ve all heard the importance of positive thinking in anything, especially a workout. Easier said than done right?! Well believe it or not, your body can push farther than your brain is telling it to! As your brain starts to signal physical fatigue, what messages do you currently send yourself?! Are they “keep going!”, “you can do it!”, or “don’t fail!”, and “don’t wimp out like last time!”?!
Before your next workout I want you to select 2 or 3 of the phrases below to focus on during your workout. Feel free to customize these phrases, but ensure they are all worded POSITIVELY:
- “I am strong and powerful, and I can conquer this workout!”
- “Be your best today, and you’ll beat your competitors tomorrow!”
- “With every minute that passes, I’m becoming a better me!”
- “Pain is only temporary; the benefits of this workout will last forever!”
Research shows that it’s the consistent implementation of positive self-talk that improves your results over time. So the next time you feel like skipping burpees or abs at the end of your workout, think again. Just by increasing your positive emotions and energy, you convince your brain’s fatigue reflex that yes, you can go just a bit longer! Work it 😉
