If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen my brightly colored confetti picture. If not, please go follow me after you read a little bit about FIESTA (meaning “party”) in Santa Barbara! Every year, for the past 90 years, Santa Barbara celebrates “Old Spanish Days” the first week of August, to honor and preserve Santa Barbara’s history, spirit, culture, heritage, and traditions. There are endless festivals, parades, mariachi bands, flamenco dancers, tacos, margaritas, churros, and most importantly “cascarones” (or confetti eggs) for the entire week. As a little girl, I participated in the parades and festival as a Flower Girl wearing a traditional skirt with a detailed blouse, but as an adult all I wanted to do was venture out and grab some tacos and churros while listening to mariachi bands (and of course crack some cascarones on people)…and that’s exactly what went down! Bright colored confetti lines the streets and Spanish-like alleyways of Santa Barbara for months which somehow makes the town more beautiful (if that’s even possible!). If you ever get a chance to visit Santa Barbara, MAKE SURE it’s the first week of August so you can experience the one-of-a-kind FIESTA celebration! VIVA LA FIESTA!!!
